Punakha Hotels : Amankora Punakha
Description
Situated a short drive north of one of Bhutan's most historically important Dzongs, the 17th century Punakha Dzong, and Phuntsho Pelri Palace, Amankora Punakha is accessed by crossing a suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu (Mother River). More than 85% of this region is forested with a mixture of conifer and broadleaf trees.
The lodge includes a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse built by Her Majesty the Queen Mother as a residence to oversee the surrounding paddy fields and fruit orchards. This quaint, three-storey structure with its preserved vegetable dye wall-paintings is now the combined common guest area with the Dining Room on the ground floor and the upper floors offering intimate relaxation areas and a traditional altar room for prayers or meditation. The courtyard of farmhouse is suitable for outdoor dining and relaxation during Punakha's temperate months. Adjacent to the courtyard is a Tea Pavilion that was once Kitchen of the summer palace. Beyond this is the two-storey Spa providing a yoga/meditation rooms on its upper level with open views of the surrounding paddy fields and two private treatment rooms, a steam room and changing area on the lower level. Identical in Bhutanese-inspired design to those of Amankora Paro, the suites are located in three, rammed-earth buildings set in an orange orchard with views across the paddy fields and up the Punakha valley.
